Back to the Beginning

17 Jan

Well, I’ve officially restarted Insanity. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, but I figure that even though I was almost done before the appendix fiasco, I’ve lost a good two weeks of progress. And this way, I’ll continue to get results and I’ll have my exercise schedule in place for another 60 days.

Anyway, today I begrudgingly woke up early (haven’t done that in a while) and plowed through that damn Fit Test. My results weren’t actually too bad, considering it’s been almost 14 days since my last session with Sean T. I still hate Power Jumps because they hurt the most, and Push-Up Jacks continue to hurt. But I’m glad to be back on the workout wagon. Looking forward to capitalizing on what Insanity can really do.

Beyond my return to Insanity, things are going good. My stitches are healing really well and I really don’t have any more pain. I’m giving myself a 100% rating as far as recovery goes. Hooray! The Curragh was pretty busy today (thanks to the non-working on MLK day crowd) and my piano skills continue to improve. Now, I’m just taking it easy on the couch and watching The Bachelor. Yes, The Bachelor. It’s a guilty pleasure.

I’d like to give a special shoutout to Mark Schimming who is currently “defending our freedom” as a sailor in Italy. When he says “defending our freedom,” he means he is doing light computer work probably interspersed with video game play. Either way Mark, thanks for all the blood, sweat and tears you shed saving America.

Insanity Day: Almost There

12 Jan

Well, I’m just about ready to workout. And it’s taken a lot longer than I first predicted. In fact, I thought I’d be up and running with Sean T. yesterday. But in the name of being careful and cautious and safe, I’ve put off my insane exercises for a few more days. My new goal? Friday. Friday the 13th to be exact. I actually didn’t know it was such a scary day until I typed it just now after glancing at the present date on my computer monitor. But that’s fine with me. Friday will be my first day off since returning to work after the appendix removal and I think I can handle it. I want to get back to the sweaty workouts that I miss so much.

So you’re probably wondering, how is my recovery going? I’m almost back to 100%. From the people I’ve talked to (my bar customers and past appendix patients,) I’ve done pretty well. Back in the olden days, appendix removal could take up to six weeks to recover from. And I’m SO HAPPY it doesn’t take that long anymore. In just about a week, I’m back to working and near to working out. So I have the advanced medical field to thank for that.

Tonight I lost in RBI Baseball (which made me extremely mad) but I suppose there is always tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m working, doing my job and waiting for the day that I can exercise in the morning and blog about my workout at night! The day will come soon, my friends!

All that being said, I hope your 2012 is the best year of your life. It isn’t mine so far (sans appendix) but it definitely has potential. Good luck, lovers. ๐Ÿ™‚

Insanity Update: Still on the Mend

9 Jan

Well folks, I’m still working on getting back into tip-top shape so that I continue getting into shape. My pipe dream sort of plan was to start doing Insanity again tomorrow, but sources (any my body) tell me that might not be a good idea. My new goal is to possibly begin again on Wednesday. Just taking one week off makes me feel like kind of a lazy wuss, although I know it’s not realistic for me to be exercising. If nothing else, getting my appendix removed gave me new appreciation for surgeries in general. They are scary, stressful and the recovery time is the opposite of fun.

This weekend at work was pretty good. After a late night yesterday, I filled in for Martina this morning from 10:30 am until 5 p.m. I had a decent bar crowd and there were some NFL fans in as well. As far as tomorrow goes, I’ll be back to my normal weekly schedule. So if you’re in the area and looking for some lunch, I’m the girl to visit.

As for tonight, we just had some festive fajitas (made my yours truly,) and now it’s time for some football and then an RBI Baseball rematch. My guess? Wes will never beat me. I’ve played far too many sessions of RBI Baseball to lose to a rookie.

I hope your weekend was everything you imagined and I hope your 2012 is off to the best start ever. Thanks for keeping up with my life. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Insanity Day: Nope, Not Gonna Happen.

6 Jan

Ah. Still waiting for my wounds to heal, and I couldn’t be more annoyed. I can’t do a lot more than sit on the couch, or sit in a chair, or relax. I know that might sound nice, but I get antsy really fast. I would much rather be comfortably playing piano, walking around Chicago, painting, or basically doing anyting besides wasting away in front of the tv. But I gotta do it. At least probably until tomorrow afternoon. And I’m guessing I should put off any alcohol intake until at least next week. :/

Today I viewed some pretty awful programming, and tried to recuperate. Still a little sore, but I’m walking around much easier. I even made it out for a haircut (that I needed really friggen’ bad.) I figured that didn’t count as too much exertion since I was really just sitting there reading magazines.

Then this evening the girls (and Doug) and I all got together at Carnivale to celebrate the birthdays of Katie and Mary. Delicous food, very festive atmosphere and obviously fantastic conversation. I was sad to sit out of the mojito drinking for sure.

Unfortunately I still will not be doing my Insanity video tomorrow, but I’m hoping to feel well enough to maybe go for a walk in our unseasonably warm weather. Or perhaps go to the library? Now there’s an idea worth going through with.

Ok it’s time for a pain reliever and Conan O’Brien. Enjoy your upcoming weekend and everything it involves. For me this week flew by because of the damn hospital bed. Yet I think I’ll still find a way to relish my Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Au revoir!

Insanity Day No Way: Appendix Out, Vicodin In, Ass on Couch

5 Jan

Hi readers! Oh how I’ve missed you and my own bed. It has been a rough couple of days, and I couldn’t be more happy to have Vicodin in my tummy after taking a nice, long bubble bath.

So here’s the short version of the story. Monday night I had a super-duper horrible stomachache, and it just wouldn’t go away. In hindsight, I’m very glad that I did not do Insanity that day. I’m not sure it would have made my appendix explode or anything, but I doubt it would have helped matters.

Anyway, we went into the ER at Saint Mary and Elizabethย  Medical Center down the street. We waited (in the waiting room of course) for about two hours before I was transported to a bed in the ER. There, I got a quick physical, and had to drink about 40 ounces of this smoothie-looking barium stuff. Then it was a CT scan, and a diagnosis of the beginning stages of appendicitis. (That took another three hours.)

Once I finally got moved to a real hospital bed, Wes went home to rest and I prepared for surgery at noon-ish. Meaning we were into Tuesday. Surgery involved me getting put totally under (a little scary) and the surgeon making three small incisions in my lower abdomen. After that, I think they prodded around inside with some metal pole things and removed that damn painful appendix.

After I woke up in Recovery, I got to head back to my room for bad television, two liquid-only meals and halfass attempts at sleeping. I got woken up a lot by nurses checking on me and just in general. I despise being in the hospital. It’s sad, lonely and beyond boring. I”m thankful that I was only there for about a day and a half.

Wes picked me up at about 3 today, we went and got my Vicodin prescription and just finished watching “Our Idiot Brother” with Paul Rudd. I’d definitely recommend. it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Now it’s dinner time and high time for me to kick some major ass on Wheel of Fortune. Like I always do.

Thanks again to everyone’s concerns and well wishes the past few days. I’m glad that experience is behind me. Bring it on 2012!

P.S. I’ll be back doing Insanity ASAP. I’m guessing not until at least Saturday though. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Insanity Day 43: Waaaah. My Tummy Hurts.

3 Jan

Argh. Not a great start to Insanity in 2011. I woke up late this morning, worked, went to piano and came home. The plan was to work out about now, but my stomach is not being very nice to me. At all. I’m not sure I could actually exercise right now. So here’s the plan: today will be my Rest Day and Sunday will be exercise as usual. I hate when this happens, because it sort of throws off my week, but really no choice at the moment.

Work today was pretty damn good. Lots of football was on, and that Winter Classic was going on in Philadelphia. I don’t care much for college sports, but the Michigan State game was pretty crazy, as was the Wisconsin/Oregon game. Wes would have preferred the Badgers won, but they did not.

I’ve said it before, but I really want a piano. Like NOW. If you know of one that works and is either cheap or free, you give me a call. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Then my only problem will be moving it.

I’d keep writing but in all honesty, I just want to lay down. Tomorrow – back on the fast track to the end of Insanity.

Happy Monday night! Sorry to all of you that need to get back to the work grind tomorrow. Keep on truckin.’

Insanity Day 42: Auld Lang Syne

1 Jan

Well here it is. 2012. And so far, no complaints. I didn’t have to workout today, we went and had some Thai food for lunch, and soon we’re going to get together with the girls for some New Year’s drinks. I’m guessing some of them have tomorrow off, but I’ll be back at the Curragh (my second home.)

Last night went pretty well. The bar didn’t get as packed as I was hoping for, but we had a good crowd. And, we handed out champagne for the Irish New Year and the one here in the U.S. So that means 6 p.m. and midnight. Kinda cool.

Oh! Also today I made some progress on my laundry resolution. All of that is folded up and put away. Boom. As far as days go, that matched with a Bears win is pretty awesome. Capping it off with friends is going to make it even better.

My guess is no one’s reading this thing today, so I’m going to sign off for now. Happy New Year kids! I hope it’s the beginning to the best damn year you’ve ever had.
